Valentine's Day this year was a little bit CRAZY!! Sienna was under a severe thunderstorm warning which quickly turned into a tornado warning! The kids' school went into lockdown & all the classes in the portables, including Addy's, were brought inside. Luckily I was subbing that day so I was able to check on my kiddos. They both did great & after about 2 hours, the threat passed, school resumed and the kids were still able to have their class Valentine's parties.
At Addy's party, they made Valentine's cards
and played a Minute to Win It game of how many conversation hearts they could pick up with a straw in a minute.
And at Alex's party, they made ice cream sundaes
and heart shaped Cheerio bird feeders.
And before Valentine's Day, I had lots of fun making lots of Valentine hearts.
Including some for Alex's class,
some Minecraft creeper Valentine's
and I helped mom make these cute Choose Joy ones for church.
The kids have been back in school for several months now!
Matter of fact the whole first semester is almost over!
Here are some of the things they've done in school this year...
Alex is in 2nd grade this year & guess what, he has the same teacher as last year! He was so excited when he found out he was going to have Mrs. Martin again. It made for such an easy transition back to school for him!
Addy is in 4th grade this year.
And this is her teacher, Mrs. Strube.
Here's Addy on the first day of school.
And Alex!
Addy did this on the first day of school. I was cracking up reading it when she brought it home, especially the last answer!
These are from a day when I went to school & ate lunch with the kids.
The kids had Red Ribbon Week back in October.
Some of the themes this year were...
Spot me being drug free or animal print day.
Addy was thrilled to wear her animal print.
Alex not so much!
Red, white & blue day
Character day
And it wasn't during Red Ribbon week but they also dressed up for 50s day on the 50th day of school!
On election day, the 2nd grade class preformed a musical called Vote. They sang several of the usual patriotic songs.
Plus this one... The Presidential Rap. It was Alex's favorite!
I was presently surprised that Alex actually participated! He was signing (or he said he was just lip singing, but at least his mouth was moving unlike during his Kindergarten graduation) and doing the movements.
Here's his class after the performance.
And some pictures with some of his friends.
On Friday, November 18th Alex had a craft day at school.
The kids rotated between the 2nd grade classroom making several Thanksgiving themed crafts.
Including writing picture stories on paper bags
And making beaded necklaces.
They also made felt bags, spice packs, woven placemats & melted crayons to make candles.
And in addition to all this fun stuff, of course they've been going to school & learning everyday :)
The kids had their Valentine's Day parties on Friday, February 13th.
(Which was also Nick's birthday.)
During Alex's party, the kids made a cute heart craft.
And then they made homemade trail mix for their snack.
During Addy's party, the kids made a love bug craft.
And then had ice cream sundaes for their snack. Yum!
Both their classes passed out their Valentine's cards earlier in the day before the parties started.
But here are their card holders.
Alex wanted his to be Skylanders & INSISTED that it be a bag, not a box.
So we put Snapshop (he's a good guy) on one side.
And Kaos (he's evil) on the other.
Addy, on the other hand, only had one request. That her box be an elephant!
I was a little puzzled over how we would pull this off, but then my crafty side took over & it was really quite easy. And it turned out adorable!
Both their box & bag were filled with cards & candy & little toys.
And not surprisingly, Alex someone dug right in as soon as we got home.
