Second Grade Field Trip to the Zoo

On February 9th, Alex went on his 2nd grade field trip to the Houston Zoo.

The weather was perfect that day & the pokestops were a plenty! Which all made for a super fun field trip!!

No School = The Zoo

On September 26, Addy & Alex were out of school for the opening of the Ft. Bend County fair. But instead of going to the fair, we decided to go to one of Addy's favorite places...the zoo!

We met up with some friends

and then cruised around the zoo checking out all the animals.

The kids also played in the African forest.

Crawled through the tunnel in the Rainforest house.

And pet the farm animals in the Children's Zoo.

Well... Addy pet the farm animals in the Children's Zoo. 

Alex sat on this bench & refused to pet even one animal!

He said they were dirty & smelled bad!
Good point buddy ;)

We also rode the carousel.

Addy rode on a zebra & Alex started out on an elephant.

But quickly changed his mind & rode on the non moving bench seat. 

That's my boy & rides! lol

After the zoo, the kids walked around the lake

and rode the train around Herman Park.

It was a fun day but we also had a really scary incident occur. While we were in the children's area, Addy disappeared. She & I were looking at the swan, she walked off & when I turned around she was gone. I went back to the play area where Alex & our friends were & she wasn't there. So I start looking for her & the longer it goes without me finding her, the more worried I became. So I grabbed the first zoo employee I could find & told him that I could not find my daughter. He asked me what she looked like, sent an all call over his radio & started to help me search for her. We rechecked the children's area & didn't find her. So I asked my friend to stay with Alex in the children's area in case she came back & the zoo employee & I started walking towards the zebras, which is what she had been asking to see all day. As soon as we walked out of the children's area, my friend called me & said that they found Addy & at the same time, the employee got a call on his radio also stating that they had located her. Where had she gone you might wonder, well apparently she was hungry & she was looking for food. 

She's matured so much over the past couple of years that I thought we had moved past her elopement issues, but apparently we have not. 

And so now my guard is back up. 

Big time!

Happy Halloween (It's Only A Month Late!!)

Here's what our Halloween looked like...

We carved a few pumpkins.

We booed our friends.

(The kids had a blast doing this!)

We went to Zoo Boo.

Alex had a Halloween party at school. 

They had a costume parade around the parking lot & then trunk or treated. After the trunk or treating, they went inside & had Halloween snacks & goodies.

And of course we went trick or treating!

During his school party, Alex ripped his Woody costume. So we looked through all his dress up clothes in his closet & he decided to go trick or treating as a veterinarian. 

(While trick or treating, he made sure that everyone knew that he was a vet, not a doctor. And then people would say "I'm going to call you when my dog is sick" and Alex would say "Well, I'm not a real veterinarian, it's just a costume!" Lol!)

And Addy went as a princess that was riding a unicorn.

(Or according to Alex, she was a princess riding an alicorn, which apparently is what you call a unicorn that has wings.)

My kids were great trick or treaters! 

They would race to the door, ring the doorbell one million times & then say "trick or treat' in unison! (And they should be great at it because they made me practice in the car with them over & over again!)

They had lots of fun and made out like bandits!

The Weekend Before Last

The weekend before last Nick was out of town on a boys golf trip. That means I had the kids by myself all weekend. And let me tell you, it was a BUSY weekend! Here's what we did...

Friday night we went to an outdoor movie night at Addy's school. The PTO set up a big blow up screen & played Wreck It Ralph. 

We got there about an hour before the movie started and met up with our Girl Scout troop. We sat on blankets on the ground & ate popcorn & candy. About 30 minutes into the show, Alex was ready to go. He leaned over to me & said "Mommy, this movie is dangerous. We need to go home." So we did. But we sure had a lot of fun while we were there.


Saturday morning, Addy had a baseball game. As always, she played great & really enjoyed herself. And this time, they had more Angels in the Outfield to help out with the kids so that us parents could sit back and watch. Here is Addy with her awesome Angel Will.


After the game, we ran up to the pet store to look at the animals. Addy could stay & watch the mice all day long.


Look at this little guy. We almost brought him home!


Sunday we went downtown to the Houston Autism Festival.

The kids got their faces painted while I looked at the booths and got some information on different therapy centers in Houston.


Alex got his face painted like a Ninja Turtle & Addy got her's painted like a cow. She's 'mooing' in this picture.


After the Autism Festival, we walked across the street to the Houston Aquarium. It was our first time to go there. Of course Addy loved seeing all the aquatic animals but I was not very impressed.

And since I was disappointed with the Aquarium & it was on the way home, we went to the zoo. My plan was to first check out the parking lot & see how busy it was, but Addy saw the zoo signs & then we really didn't have a choice anymore.

and looked at the animals & fed the giraffes. Sadly my phone went dead early on so I didn't get to take very many pictures at the zoo.

Needless to say, we were exhausted by the end of the weekend & ready for Daddy to get home.
