Popscicles

a cool treat on a hot summer day

brain freeze
Look at that mess!
Addy thought she wanted to try one.

But she changed her mind & put her popscicle down.
So Alex picked it up & then he had one for each hand!

Next time I'm using clear Koolaid!

Recycled Crayons

We took our old broken crayons & recycled them to make fun new crayons!

Start by removing the wrappers.
We used a knife to cut the paper. It maked it a lot easier.
Spray a muffin pan with cooking spray. Very very important step!!!
Then fill the muffin pan with the crayons. You can mix colors or have all shades of one color.
Bake at 275 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes. Keep a close eye on the crayons & take them out of the oven when you see that they are all melted.
Let the crayons cool completely & then pop them out of the muffin pan.
Now you have big fun crayons! & they're apparently great for coloring on the wall & floor! Lol!

Quick & Easy Bow Holder

This is a quick project that turned out really cute! It only took me about 20 minutes to make!

You'll need:
a canvas
piece of fabric to cover canvas
4 coordinating ribbons
wooden letters
paint
stapler
glue gun

1. Lightly sand (if needed) the letters & paint them. I actually painted them the night before so they would be ready.

2. Iron the fabric & lay face down. Put the canvas face down on top of the fabric. Pull the fabric tight & staple the sides to the back of the canvas.

3. Take one strip of ribbon & stretch it across the front of the fabric covered canvas & staple to the back. Cut off excess. I measured mine to make sure it was centered.

4. Place the 3 ribbons that will hold the bows & staple to the back of the canvas.

5. Turn the canvas over & hot glue the letters to the front.

6.And that's it, you're finished!! Hang it on the wall & put all your bows on it!

Nature Scavenger Hunt

Last night the kids & I went on a nature scavenger hunt.

I made up a list of items to look for & printed it out.
Addy grabbed the list, Alex hopped in the wagon & we were ready to go explore the neighborhood. I knew we wouldn't be able to collect everything (like the clouds) so I brought my camera & took pictures of all the items, so I guess it was really a photo nature scavenger hunt.
We didn't find everything on our list, but we definitely looked high & low for them.
We searched the ground for rocks & grass & we looked high in the sky searching for clouds, birds & nests. Here's what we found...
grass
a tree
leaves
a flower
rocks
a stick (which is great for drawing in the dirt)
We didn't find a turtle on our scavenger hunt, but we found this one on our front porch.
So Addy & I decided it counted!

We even found some nature items not on our scavenger hunt list,
but worth taking a photo of.
a lake
a magnolia cone (don't know what these are really called)
a tree stump (that is perfect for sitting on)
some kind of cool looking tree root
a tree that has been cut right down to the ground
(would this still be considered a tree stump??)
the sky as the sun was setting
the ground is so dry that there are big holes in it
I was expecting to find clovers around the school fence, but it looks like FBISD is getting ready for school because the playground was freshly mowed. Not good for our scavenger hunt :( but good for the kids since we stopped and played for about 45 minutes.
Addy pushing Alex on the swing. (What a sweet sister!)
Addy pretending she was a bird.

We had so much fun last night, that tonight when we left for our walk, Addy grabbed her list again & made me bring the camera. Here are a few pictures from tonight's scavenger hunt...

And guess what, we finally found a clover, Yay!!
